The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 features a 10x wide-angle optical
zoom Leica DC lens (equivalent to a 28mm-280mm
zoom on a 35mm film camera) in one of the smallest
body for an ultra zoom. And you do not even need a lens cap: the lens retracts into the stylish body with an integrated lens barrier protecting it. The long zoom reach allows
you to bring distant subjects close while the
wide-angle lens allows you to include all your
friends in the picture or capture an architectural
or expansive landscape in a single shot.
Shake Detection in the TZ5 features the MEGA O.I.S.
(Optical Image Stabilizer) system to fight against
hand-shake, the major cause of blurry images.
In addition, Motion Detection compensates for the other
major cause of blurry images --subject movement
-- with the Intelligent ISO Control function which
detects subject movement and adjusts the ISO setting
and shutter speed to best suit the movement and
light conditions automatically. Together, they
form Intelligent Image Stabilizer.
Scene Detection allows the camera to automatically determine the scene mode to use: Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Scenery or Night Portrait.
Face Detection detects and tracks up to 15 faces, and provides optimum AF/AE/flash control.
Light Detection automatically brightens images in the shadows.
Venus Engine IV in the TZ5 allows
high-sensitivity recording up to ISO 6400 with an improved noise reduction system.
Intelligent Auto Technology (iA) combines the 5 detection functions (Shake Detection, Motion Detection, Scene Detection, Face Detection and Light Detection) to let the camera select the best mode and exposure.
A high resolution (460K dots)
extra large 3.0-in. LCD monitor makes composition
easy. Battery life is approximately 300
pictures on a single charge (CIPA standard).
The TZ5 is compatible with the optional
marine case DMW-MCTZ5 which is safe to a depth
of 40 meters.
If you like the idea of an image
stablized long zoom with a wide-angle coverage
in a relatively compact body, the Panasonic
Lumix DMC-TZ5 may just be what you need --
available in black, silver or blue (and brown in some countries).
For about $50 less, you can also purchase the DMC-TZ4 which has 8.1MP resolution and a 2.7-in. (230K dots) LCD.
