First Spring Flowers
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 is an ultra zoom digital camera housed in a well-designed body and is compact enough to carry in a trousers or coat pocket. It is equipped with a very versatile 10x 28-280mm
wide-angle optical zoom that allows you to take wide
landscapes and large group shots, portraits, macro as well as bring far away action close.
An extra large 3.0-in. LCD monitor with a high 460,000
dots resolution makes composition and viewing
very comfortable. You can display a live histogram
and a framing guide of horizontal and vertical
lines. Construction and build is very good.
Image quality is very good at ISO 100, with low
noise and good image detail. Image quality is
good at ISO 200 but, as is common with all consumer digicams, tend to suffer from
noise and loss of detail at higher ISOs.
What I like about the Panasonic TZ5:
Wide-angle 28mm is great for wide landscapes
and group shots.
Very good image quality at ISO 100.
Effective Image Stabilization, plus Intelligent
ISO to tackle both camera shake and subject
movement.
Intelligent Auto mode really works very well!
Good performance, no practical shutter lag,
fast and precise AF.
Availability of Manual WB and WB Adjust.
CA negligible.
Availability of Live Histogram.
Availability of Guide Lines (2 patterns).
Stylish, compact enough to be pocketable.
Extra large 3.0-in. LCD with very high resolution; option to automatically brighten depending on ambient light.
Very good build and construction.
30 Zoom steps for precise focal length positioning.
Accepts large capacity SDHC card.
Very good Menu Structure and intuitive Controls.
Availability of 15, 30 and 60 sec. in Starry
Sky scene mode.
Hinged door for easy access to terminals.
Improvements wishlist:
High ISOs
pictures limited to small prints and for Web
display (due to high noise and loss of image
detail).
LCD gains up only slightly in low-light.
The
Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 is the one camera you won't want to leave home without. Relatively light and compact for a 10x ultra zoom, you'll never need to miss a picture opportunity again with this easy-to-use point-and-shoot digital camera. Set to Intelligent Auto (iA) shooting mode, it is perfect as a hassle-free travel camera (and perfect if you are headed to the Summer Olympics).
