With the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 / FT1, Panasonic enters the "TOUGH" category with an ultra compact that is waterproof, dustproof and shockproof. The TS1 features 12.1MP resolution (on a 1/2.33-in. CCD), a 4.6x wide-angle optical zoom Leica-branded lens (28mm-128mm equiv.) and Optical Image Stabilization for both stills and movies to help reduce camera shake at the long focal lengths and slow shutter speeds.

Intelligent Auto Technology (iA) combines 6 detection functions in still photography (Face Detection, Subject Detection, Shake Detection, Motion Detection, Scene Detection and Light Detection) and 4 detection functions (Face Detection, Shake Detection, Scene Detection and Light Detection) in video recording to let the camera select the best mode and exposure.

A high resolution (230K dots) large 2.7-in. LCD monitor with a wide viewing angle makes composition easy. The Intelligent LCD function adjusts the backlight brightness in 11 steps according to the ambient light intensity.

Record HD Movie in AVCHD Lite (1,280 x 720 pixels, 17 Mbps) and use the optical zoom during recording.

The TS1 is waterproof to a depth of 3 meters (10 feet). You can take it fearlessly to the beach, underwater or in a pool. Wash off dirt, soil and dust by simply rinsing under running tap water.

The TS1 is shockproof and can resist impacts from being dropped from as high as 1.5 meters (5 feet). This allows you to take use it situations where knocks and bumps may damage other digital cameras.
