The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ5 features 6.0
megapixel resolution, 6.0x optical zoom with image
stabilization, and an extra large 2.5-in. (85,000
pixels resolution) LCD screen.
The major advantage Panasonic digital cameras
has over its competitors is the MEGA Optical Image
Stabilizer. This works to counteract camera shake
due to shaky hands or the use of too slow a shutter
speed (as in low-light shots), and hence helps
avoid blurred shots.
Also interesting on this camera is the 6x optical
zoom reach of 37-222mm (35mm equivalent) whereas
most other digital cameras in this category provides
only 3x optical zoom, and a couple reaches up
to 5x. Record 640x480 pixels movies (with sound)
at 30fps (max. recording time depends on memory
card capacity). Exposure is Program AE with 14
additional Scene Modes.
Panasonic claims a release time lag of 0.008
second minimum. You can take up to 5 images in
Standard Mode and 3 images in Fine Mode with full
resolution. In addition, the Unlimited Consecutive
Shooting function lets you continue shooting until
the memory card or built-in memory is full.
The DMC-LZ5 can be powered by two AA alkaline
or two rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH)
batteries. Included in the box are two Panasonic
Oxyride batteries that allow you to take
up to 235 photos. Alkaline batteries let you take
about 175 photos and nickel-metal hydride batteries
allow up to 390 photos. (*1)
The Panasonic LZ5 has 14MB of internal memory.
PictBridge technology allows you to print
directly to any PictBridge-compatible printer
without going through a PC.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ5 should appeal
to those looking for an affordable and easy-to-use
point-and-shoot with 6x optical zoom and built-in
image stabilization.
