PANASONIC ANNOUNCES THE LUMIX DMC-LX100

Features New 4/3-inch MOS Large Sensor, F1.7 LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMILUX lens and 4K Video Recording Capability

MISSISSAUGA, ON (September 15, 2014) – Panasonic Canada Inc. is proud to introduce the 6th generation of its world-renowned LX series of high-end compact cameras, the DMC-LX100. With a 4/3-inch High Sensitivity MOS Sensor, the camera is designed to inspire creativity. The DMC-LX100 is not just a successor to the DMC-LX7 but is also reminiscent of the DMC-LC1 – Panasonic’s first full manual compact camera released in 2004.

To achieve even higher picture quality and multi-aspect capability, the DMC-LX100 incorporates Panasonic’s 4/3-inch high sensitivity MOS sensor.  The powerful sensor and F1.7 lens create a shallow depth of field, which enables subjects to stand out of the background with rich stereoscopic effect.  By keeping the resolution to 12.8-megapixels1, the amount of secured light is enough to improve S/N ratio, making it possible to capture clear images with minimum noise even when shooting at a high ISO.  The Venus Engine is also newly developed to feature multiple noise reduction systems such as Multi Process NR, Random Filter and Aperture Filter, to achieve high colour reproduction and high image quality with natural description.

The newly developed LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMILUX lens (35mm camera equivalent: 24-75mm) boasts F1.7-F2.8 high speed and high descriptiveness in detail and resolution even in the corners of images.  Together with the large MOS Sensor, it also produces stunningly beautiful image defocus.  In addition, the newly adopted nine-blade aperture diaphragm helps produce bokeh with smooth, circular shape.  The versatile zoom range of 24-75mm (35mm camera equiv.) is suitable for wide-ranging photography uses – from snap to portrait.  Notably, landscapes can be captured in dynamic 24mm ultra wide angle in any aspect (4:3, 3:2 or 16:9) thanks to the multi-aspect sensor.

The DMC-LX100 integrates a LVF (Live View Finder) with 2,764K-dot equivalent high resolution and approx.100 per-cent colour reproduction.  This 16:9 Wide Screen LVF boasts approx.1.39x / 0.7x (35mm camera equiv.) magnification and 100 per-cent field of view.  The DMC-LX100 is equipped with a variety of advanced functions to suit the needs of experienced photographers.  The camera allows for direct, intuitive control with dedicated rings and dials such as aperture ring, control ring, shutter speed dial or exposure compensation dial.

The DMC-LX100 is capable of smooth, high quality video recording in 4K (QFHD 4K: 3840×2160, at 30 fps in MP4) as well as full-HD 1,920 x 1,080 60p, and AVCHD Progressive (MPEG-4 / H.264) format or MP4 at 60p.  Panasonic’s “4K Photo” leverages the camera’s 4K video recording capability and cuts out a 3840×2160 8-megapixel equivalent image from the 4K video footage, enabling users to capture spur-of-the-moment shots which are often missed in still image photography.  Operation is easier with the newly added 4K Photo mode, which is accessible through the menu.

The DMC-LX100 is also superior in response.  The camera features new DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology, which improves accuracy and speed to achieve Light Speed AF of approx. 0.14 sec2 enabling photographers to capture fleeting shooting opportunities.  High speed burst shooting can be shot at 11 fps in full resolution.  It also complies with max.1/4000(mechanical) and 1/16000(electronic) high speed shutter speed.

For more creative freedom, Creative Control (Filter), Creative Panorama and Photo Style are available.  Notably, aperture and shutter speed can be adjusted while applying Creative Control filter, to further inspire the photographers’ creativity.  The DMC-LX100 integrates Wi-Fi® connectivity (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n) with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology in-camera to offer a more flexible shooting experience and instant image sharing capability with easy operation.  More practical functions including Focus Peaking, Level Gauge, WB (white balance) bracket, highlight/shadow control are also available.  Now the DMC-LX100 can develop RAW images into JPEG, in-camera.  A compact external flash (GN7/ISO100・m, GN10/ ISO200・m) that goes with the body colour of the camera is bundled to be mounted on the hot shoe.

While D-SLR cameras are designed for optimal performance and functionality, compact cameras are more intuitive tools that drive people to photography in the first place.  Combining the best-possible components with Panasonic’s state-of-the-art digital/optical technologies, the DMC-LX100 is a premium digital compact camera that’s easy to use and satisfies users with high picture quality and a host of advanced functions.
