PANASONIC ANNOUNCES THE AVAILABILITY OF THE LUMIX DMC-G7 – ITS HIGHLY ANTICIPATED INTERCHANGEABLE LENS CAMERA

Featuring 4K Photography / Video Recording Capability and New Digital Single Lens Mirrorless Technology

MISSISSAUGA, ON (May 19th, 2015) – Panasonic Canada Inc. is proud to introduce the 7th generation of its world-renowned G series of high-end compact cameras, the DMC-G7.  This new Digital Single Lens Mirrorless (DSLM) camera integrates 4K video recording alongside an impressive variety of 4K photography capabilities.  With a 16.00-megapixel Digital Live MOS Sensor, this latest addition to the LUMIX family of cameras is designed to nurture the creativity of its users when capturing both still and moving images.

The DMC-G7’s 4K video recording capabilities allow users to capture stunningly-smooth, high-resolution scenes at an unprecedented speed of 30 fps with 8-megapixel equivalent resolution.  Additionally, users can take fleeting photo opportunities within their 4K videos by using three new features – 4K Burst Shooting, 4K Burst S/S (Start/Stop) and 4K Pre-burst.  All of these functions enable the user to simply select photos from the 4K video by cropping the desired frame out of the 4K burst file.

The G7’s 16.00-megapixel Digital Live MOS Sensor is highly sensitive and fast-responding. Its Venus Engine dramatically boosts the camera’s performance with a quad-core CPU that achieves high speed signal processing resulting in 8 fps(AFS) / 6 fps(AFC).  Additionally, the Venus Engine vividly improves colour reproduction with an accurate evaluation of each colour – in both saturation and luminosity – allowing the camera to capture exceptionally fast-moving subjects in complete focus. This high-powered engine also excels in diffraction compensation to capture images that are crisp and clear, even when using a small aperture. With an integrated superior noise reduction system, the DMC-G7 also enables shooting at maximum ISO25600.  Sensitivity, gradation performance, resolution and colour reproduction have dramatically advanced in this model to achieve a higher picture quality than ever before.

The Contrast AF System features DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology and excels in both speed and accuracy.  Designed to enhance usability and complement a wide range of shooting situations, the DMC-G7 includes a variety of extensive AF functions. The Low Light AF feature makes it possible for users to achieve a clear focus on their subject as precisely and quickly as possible, even in extremely low-lit situations. Furthermore, the DMC-G7’s newly integrated Starlight AF allows users to achieve a clear photo of a star in the night sky with auto focus.  This can be achieved by an accurate calculation of the contrast value in each split AF zone.  In addition to the conventional Face Recognition AF, the DMC-G7’s incorporates Face / Eye Detection AF. This new feature automatically sets the camera’s focus on the eyes of the human subject being captured.

Additionally, the camera’s Pinpoint AF gives users the capabilities to magnify their target area to set an accurate and extremely precise focus. The DMC-G7’s calculated algorithm of AF Tracking ensures that the colour, size and motion vector of each subject are recognized and captured even more accurately than ever before.

The DMC-G7’s display area has been redesigned to include high-precision OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) that increases the resolution of the display area to 2,360K-dot, with approx.1.4x / 0.7x (35mm camera equiv.) magnification and 100% field of view. The camera’s redesigned eyecup improves the ease of use for the DMC-G7 – switching the image output between the LVF and rear monitor automatically with a built-in sensor on the LVF.  This model in the LUMIX family of cameras includes the addition of OLED – enabling the display area to respond at high-speed with minimum lag time, all the while enhancing resolution. Most notably, the OLED for the LVF in DMC-G7 boasts 10,000:1 contrast allowing for superior colour reproduction.  Users also have the option of viewing the LVF in a monochrome display so as to concentrate on the highlight and contrast areas of each image.

The display’s maximum luminance has also increased by more than 50 percent when compared to its predecessor, the DMC-G6.  As a result, the camera is able to secure higher visibility in the sunniest of conditions with increased resolution and enhanced colour reproduction.

The DMC-G7 integrates Wi-Fi® connectivity (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n) to offer a more flexible and connected shooting experience.  Users can instantly share or store images with their smartphone or tablet devices.  Additionally, the DMC-G7 also features ‘Jump Snap’ – an interesting new feature that connects the camera with users’ smartphones.  By connecting with the GPS of a user’s smartphone, this application detects the coordinates of the user jumping in the air and releases the shutter of the remotely-located camera.  It identifies the highest position that the user has jumped and captures the image at this optimal point.
