Olympus C-8080 WZ Review

Review Date: June 11, 2004

Olympus Camedia C-8080 Wide Zoom

Category: Advanced Amateur - Prosumer

Olympus fans will welcome the all-black magnesium body Camedia C-8080 Wide Zoom. It retains the extra wide angle zoom that is so useful for landscape and real-estate work, and the fully articulated high resolution LCD for difficult angle shots. Now in 8 million pixels resolution.

The 5x optical zoom covers the most useful focal lengths: from a 35mm equivalent of 28mm (wide angle) to a medium telephoto of 140mm. Maximum aperture is F2.4. An electronic viewfinder (EVF) has 240,000 pixels resolution. Shutter speed ranges from a blazing fast 1/4,000 sec. to 16 sec.

The Olympus Camedia C-8080 Wide Zoom keeps the dual memory card slots which allows you to either use an xD-Picture Card, a Compact Flash type I or II (inc. IBM Microdrive 1GB), or switch between the two at will. A dedicated hotshoe allows the use of an external flash.

The C-8080 WZ is PictBridge-compatible, i.e. you can print directly from the camera to any other PictBridge-compatible printer, regardless of the brand, without first going through a computer.

The Olympus Camedia C-8080 Wide Zoom should appeal to advanced amateur photographers who desire high quality image together with a high degree of control. Wireless remote controller included.
