12MP resolution (on a 1/2.33-in. CCD), 3.6x wide-angle optical zoom (28-102 mm equiv.) and a large
and bright 2.7-in. LCD monitor (230K dots). The "TOUGH"
indicates this ultra compact digital camera is Shockproof, Waterproof, Freezeproof and Crushproof.
Whereas some cameras out there may be waterproof, the Olympus TOUGH 8000 claims to be virtually indestructible. Consider that the durable metal body has shock-absorbing technology that protects it from drops of up to 2m/6.6 ft. Waterproof seals and gaskets keep water out so you can take the camera underwater as deep as 10m/33 ft. Fear Winter no more because the TOUGH 8000 can operate at -10°C/14°F below-freezing temperatures. And if you are one who just like to throw your camera into your backpack or carry it in your backpocket, the TOUGH 8000 can withstand up to 100kg/220 pounds of pressure. To clean it, just rinse in running tap water.
There are also 24 shooting modes to help you capture the shot, including 4 underwater scene modes. The wide-angle lens is perfect for wide landscapes. Want more? In-Camera Panorama allows you to press the shutter button and slowly pan across a scene to automatically take 3 shots and stitch it into a panoramic picture.
The Olympus Stylus TOUGH 8000 should
appeal to those into extreme sports and those who need an ultra compact travel companion that will endure bumps, drops, dust and moisture. Now with tap control to control some of the most common functions.
For about US $100 less, you can get the TOUGH 6000 which is waterproof to 3m (10ft), shockproof from a fall of 1.5m (5ft) and freezeproof to temperatures of -10°C/14°F. It is not certfied crushproof.
