The Olympus Stylus 1050 SW has undergone a redesign. Still "the toughest compact digital camera on the planet," it now features Tap Control technology that makes the 1050 SW sensitive to a tap to almost any part of its body. Selecting the most common menu settings is now just a matter of tapping the top, back or sides of the camera.
The 1050 SW has 10.1MP resolution, a large 2.7-in. LCD (230K dots) and is shockproof, waterproof, freezeproof, and dustproof. It can withstand a drop from 1.5 metres (5 feet) with its shock-absorbing technology, which minimizes the impact on the lens and circuitry. It will keep operating in freezing snowstorms down to -10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit). Its lightweight, aluminum exterior is matched with interior rubber gaskets and O-rings to seal out the elements and allows it to be fully submerged to depths of approximately 3 metres (10 feet). It also features a water-repellant lens coating to prevent water droplets from forming on the lens.
Shadow Adjustment Technology compensates for extreme contrast between dark shadowed areas and bright sunlight areas by maintaining detail in highlights while improving detail in the shadows. Enhanced Face Detection tracks up to 16 faces within the frame and optimizes exposure even when subjects are moving. An LED Illuminator works like a mini-flashlight on the front of the camera to enhance focus and exposure for macro shooting – great for underwater close-up shots where light is scarce.
The Stylus 1050 SW features Digital Image Stabilization (DIS) which boosts the camera’s ISO sensitivity and shutter speed allowing it to freeze the action and provides blur-free images, even when you or your subject is moving.
Another new feature is In-camera panorama mode which captures three images and stitches them together to create one panoramic picture. All you have to do is simply press the shutter button and slowly pan across the scene; the second and third images are captured automatically and stitched together with the first image – resulting in one seamless panorama-size picture. To create the ultimate panoramic picture, the Olympus Master Software 2 allows you to stitch up to 10 images together.
Shadow Adjustment Technology compensates for extreme contrast where the shadow areas are underexposed and lack visible detail.
Perfect Shot Preview mode enables you to preview and select various photographic effects on a live, multi-window screen before snapping the shot.
The Stylus 1050 Sw uses the xD-Picture Card. An included adapter allows the digital camera to also use microSD memory cards. It is available in three trendy colours: blue, silver, champagne, pink and black (not all colors available in all countries).
