The Olympus Stylus 1050 SW is as fashionable as it is built tough. The "SW" designation means that it is both shockproof and waterproof. It is capable
of withstanding a drop from 1.5m (5 ft) and can be used safely underwater down to 3m (10 ft). It is also winterized and can be used at temperatures as low as -10°C/-14°F. New is Tap Control technology that makes it possible to set some of the functions by simply tapping the sides, top or LCD of the camera. Perfect for when you are wearing thick gloves in freezing temperatures.
All of which makes the Stylus 1050 SW a great companion at the beach, boating on the lake or ocean, hiking, skiing, or just traveling
-- without worrying about bumps, knocks,
rain, mud, sand or dust!
The Stylus 1050 SW is elegant in its all-metal
brushed ultra compact body, which is JeansPocket
Certified. The buttons are on the small side so photographers with big hands might want to first try before they buy.
This camera is targeted to Point-and-Shoot photographers,
has 10.1MP resolution and a 3x optical
zoom. AUTO and 23 Scene Modes simplify shooting,
and more advanced photographers can also switch
to the Programmed AE (P) mode which provides control
over ISO (ISO 80 to 1600), WB, exposure compensation,
and light metering.
Digital Image Stabilization
favours a high ISO and fast shutter speed to reduce
blurring caused by camera shake or
subject movement. As on any digicam, the use of high ISOs introduce noise and loss of image detail, and so the 1050 SW gives its best results when used in the bright outdoors. At the low ISOs, image quality is quite good. Performance, though, could be better.
The large 2.7-in. LCD monitor has a high
230,000 pixels resolution which, together with
a fast refresh rate, makes for a clear and smooth
display. The LCD monitor
gains up in low-light to permit
easier composition.
The Olympus Stylus 1050 SW is for the "casual active users" [while the Stylus 1030 SW is for the "real active users."] It is quite easy to get good pictures with the Stylus 1050 SW using any
one of its shooting modes, especially in bright conditions. Get it in one of four colors: Silver, Black, Blue, or Champagne.
