Olympus SP-570 UZ

Olympus SP-570 UZ

Category: Serious Amateur

The Olympus SP-570 Ultra Zoom once again leads the ultra zoom pack by being the first to announce a 10MP resolution, 20x wide-angle optical zoom (26-520mm, 35mm equiv.) with sensor-shift Image Stabilization.

We are continually amazed at the tremendous reach of ultra zoom digital cameras these days and the SP-570 UZ shines in providing both a wide-angle (which is obligatory for capturing wide landscapes and large groups) as well as an exceptional tele reach (great for zooming in on the action in sports photography).

Major features of the Olympus SP-570 UZ:

  1. A wide-angle focal length (26mm, 35mm equiv.), perfect for capturing large group shots and expansive landscape vistas.
  2. Capture wide landscapes (26mm), bring far subjects close with telephoto shots (520mm) and discover macro photography (1 cm) -- all in one versatile camera.
  3. A fly-by-wire Zoom Ring.
  4. Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization effectively counteracts camera shake when using a long focal length and/or slow shutter speed. In addition, Digital Image Stabilization (DIS) favours a high ISO and fast shutter speed to eliminate or reduce blurred shots caused by subject movement.
  5. RAW file format is a nice nod toward the advanced photographer who wants to obtain the best image quality.
  6. Hotshoe for external flash. Essential for low light photography, especially when using the optional FL-50R wireless flash with bounce head.

As you'd expect from any digital camera targeted to the serious photographer, the Olympus SP-570 UZ has full exposure flexibility with Program, Aperture-Priority, Shutter-Priority and full Manual modes, plus 25 Scene Modes to automate the most common picture-taking situations. New is a a Multi-Fireworks mode that allows you to capture multi-exposure fireworks.

High-speed continuous shooting is 13.5fps at 3MP resolution using pre-capture technology to ensure the action at the right moment.

Other useful features are: Shadow Adjustment Technology, Perfect Fix In-Camera Editing and Perfect Shot Preview.

The SLR-type body is slightly redesigned with a more generous handgrip for better handling and the camera looks quite professional in black.

The optional TCON-17 (1.7x) Telephoto Conversion Lens (1.7x) extends the reach of the tele to a whopping 35mm equiv. of 884mm (requires the Lens Adapter Tube CLA-10).

The Olympus SP-570 UZ should appeal to serious amateur photographers who desire an ultra zoom with a high degree of control, a wide-angle optical zoom, sensor-shift image stabilization, a convenient Zoom Ring, and lots of other useful practical features.
