Sevenfold prizewinner: Olympus receives six iF Design Awards and one Red Dot Award. Medical technology and microscopy products particularly successful.

Hamburg, 04/03/2017 • Six new Olympus products in the fields of medical technology and microscopy have been awarded the renowned quality seal of the iF Design Award in 2017. The Olympus PEN E-PL8 camera has been awarded the Red Dot Award, bringing Olympus’s total tally of these coveted prizes in 2017 to seven. Besides product design, other key award criteria include innovation, uniqueness and functionality. The award-winning products were designed in Tokyo and Hamburg.

The Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope Fluoview FV3000 combines speed and precision; the system can capture up to 438 images a second with signal detection exactness to the nanometer. Such extreme accuracy is necessary in biological research to investigate short biological processes. The FV3000 also stands out from the crowd thanks to its user-friendliness, combined with fast autofocus and user-specific software interfaces.

The overall CX23 Microscope design aims to ensure optimum user-friendliness and deliver first-class equipment to students in educational institutions as well as laboratories. This cost-effective system allows easy and safe operation for all workflows while providing excellent optical performance.

The eye of the VISERA 4K UHD System is the CH-S400 camera head: using the built-in Sony Exmor R™ CMOS image sensor, images are delivered in both 4K UHD as well as in full 4K resolution. For the surgeon in the operating room, this means cinema-like quality – the working area becomes bigger and clearer than ever before. The ergonomic design of the camera head also ensures maximum comfort in any holding position.

The Dual-Antenna is a data reader that helps our customers prepare flexible endoscopes efficiently and safely. The automatic, non-contact technology enables clear documentation of users, devices or consumables in an external database system. Its durability and ergonomically-shaped hand piece mark out the product as an ideal companion in everyday reprocessing work.

The Morcellator is an instrument which is routinely used in gynecology for cutting and crushing uterine and myoma tissue during laparoscopic procedures. What’s special about it is that unlike other morcellators, the PK Morcellator cuts using bipolar current rather than rotating blades, which can become blunt over time. The built-in “nose” at the tip of the instrument also prevents tissue from piercing and allows peeling similar to peeling an apple.

The 4 mm Ultra Sinuscope features a “slim” optical system with a diameter of just 4 mm. The working length of 176.5 mm provides potential benefits for ENT physicians in procedures such as operations conducted on nasal sinuses, the base of the skull, the head and the neck. It is important to see fine structures in the greatest possible detail with the three most important parameters – resolution, contrast and color. The optical system is completely autoclavable during cleaning, disinfection and sterilization.
