The Olympus Camedia C-7070 Wide Zoom steps
up to the plate right behind the award-winning
C-8080 Wide Zoom. Featuring 4x optical wide-angle
zoom (27-110mm, 35 mm equivalent), and a new articulated
high resolution LCD that swings up and rotates
to face forward for difficult angle shots (compare
to more conventional LCDs that swing left and
rotate forward), the Olympus C-7070 sports the
new 7.1MP resolution (on a 1/1.8 in.) image sensor
that seems to be lately the talk of the town for
its excellent image quality.
The 4x optical zoom covers the most useful focal
lengths: from a 35mm equivalent of 27mm (wide
angle) to a medium telephoto of 110mm. Maximum
aperture is F2.8 (F2.4 in the C-8080). Shutter
speed ranges from a blazing fast 1/4,000 sec.
to 15 sec. (in Manual mode) and 1/2,000 sec. to
4 sec. (in P, A and S modes).
The Olympus C-7070 keeps the dual memory card
slots which allows you to either use an xD-Picture
Card, a Compact Flash type I or II (inc. IBM Microdrive
1GB), or switch between the two at will.
It seems that the wireless remote controller
is no longer included as standard equipment. If
you are into macro photography, consider purchasing
this item as it is very useful in eliminating
camera shake.
A dedicated hotshoe allows the use of an external
flash.
More compact and lighter than the C-8080, the
Olympus Camedia C-7070 Wide Zoom should
appeal to advanced amateur photographers who desire
high quality image together with a high degree
of control.
