Nikon Coolpix 8700 Review

Review Date: June 21, 2004

Nikon Coolpix 8700

Category: Advanced Amateur - Prosumer

The Nikon Coolpix 8700 is a Coolpix 5400 on steroids. It retains basically the main features of the 5400 and adds a larger 2/3 in. image sensor with 8 megapixels resolution, a 8x optical zoom, and an AF-assist illuminator.

The Coolpix 8700 comes equipped with a 1.8 in. Vari-angle LCD monitor (134K pixels resolution) and high-resolution EVF (Electronic Viewfinder) at 235,000 pixels resolution. The magnesium alloy body is compact and lightweight, with a secure, comfortable grip for stability during shooting.

Other features:

  • Images can be saved as RAW files
  • Real-time histogram display
  • Accepts optional wideangle, telephoto and fisheye converters
  • Accommodates a number of optional external Speedlights

The Nikon Coolpix 8700 should appeal to advanced amateur photographers.
