This
is a gem of a digital camera!
The Nikon Coolpix 4500 has 4.0 megapixels resolution,
4x optical zoom and 16 scene modes. The
lens is a superb Nikkor with a 35mm format equivalent
of 38-155mm, and a maximum aperture of F2.6. At
5.1 (W) x 2.9 (H) x 2.0 (D) in. (main body 1.6
in. depth), it's about the size of a Palm Pilot
(though twice as thick) and weighs approx. 12.7
oz. (without battery and storage media).
Macro
focus is at 0.8 inches (read that again: less
than 1 inch, folks!), and an optional COOL-LIGHT
SL-1 macro ring light makes this camera an ideal
for serious macro photography. We continue to
be amazed at the quality macro pictures we see
taken with this camera or its predecessors, the
990/995.
There are many things to like about the Nikon
Coolpix 4500: the unique twist lens, excellent
macro capabilities, the bulb setting for night
photography, flexible exposure control, all the
shooting modes we would ever desire. The Coolpix
4500 also accepts all optional Coolpix lenses
and accessories including the 8mm Fisheye, Wide
Angle, 2x and 3x Telephoto Converters. We wished
that Nikon had provided low-light focus-assist
AF, and shutter lag were shorter.
The Nikon Coolpix 4500 is for serious photography,
and serious amateur photographers keen on macro
photography will probably not find a better choice.
