Nikon has taken the hugely popular Coolpix 4300
and fashioned two new entry-level point-and-shoot
digital cameras: the Nikon Coolpix 2100 has 2
megapixels resolution while the Coolpix 3100 has
3.2 megapixels resolution. In addition, Nikon
has reduced the size and weight. Everything you
liked in the Coolpix 4300 is in those two digital
cameras, and the controls have been further simplified
for beginners.
Besides 14 scene modes to cover most picture-taking
situations, there are now in addition 4 Scene
Assist functions: Portrait Assist, Night Portrait
Assist, Landscape Assist, and Sports Assist. For
example, if you are taknig a portrait, you can
further specify the additional portrait setting
to have the camera help you position subject in
a framing guide on the LCD: Portrait, Portrait
Left, Portrait Right, Portrait Close-up, Portrait
Couple, Portrait Figure.
We like the Nikon Coolpix 3100 as an entry-level
point-and-shoot digital camera because it makes
it easy for beginners to use a digital camera
without having to learn too much about it.
If you strictly want an affordable point-and-shoot
digital camera and don't want to pay for features
you'll never use, the Nikon Coolpix 3100 may be
a good choice for its excellent image quality,
superb macro capability and its many easy-to-use
scene modes.
