The Nikon Coolpix S2 is basically the
S1 in an all new splashproof metal body design
that provides water resistance for great photography
even in inclement weather. Though it's a few mm
bigger than the S1, it is nevertheless ultra compact
at less than 1 in. thick. The Nikon S2 easily
fits in your pocket or fashion purse and features
5.1 MP resolution, 3x optical Zoom using Zoom-Nikkor
ED lens, and lots of Scene Modes to simplify shooting
in a range of common situations.
Like many of the ultra compacts, the Nikon S2
does not have a viewfinder but comes with an extra
large 2.5 in. LCD monitor. Useful features to
enhance image quality include: D-Lighting that
adds light and detail to dark parts of images;
In-Camera Red-Eye Fix; Face-priority AF that automatically
detects faces in the frame to ensure the focus
is spot on your subject's face (face recognition
capability may be limited in some shooting conditions).
The Nikon S2 is fast with a start-up speed of
approx. 1 sec. and continuous shooting at up to
1.8 fps (approx.). Nikon claims enhanced energy
efficiency for longer battery life. The Nikon
S2 comes complete with the COOL-STATION MV-11
docking station.
Optional accessories include the Waterproof Case
WP-CP5.
The Nikon Coolpix S2 should appeal to
those desiring an easy-to-use ultra compact and
