The Nikon Coolpix P5100 has 12.1MP resolution,
a 3.5x optical Zoom-Nikkor lens with optical image stabilization and a large 2.5
in. high-resolution (230K pixels) LCD monitor
with a wide 170-degree viewing.
Vibration Reduction (VR) is Nikon's version of optical image stabilization.
VR automatically detects and compensates for small
camera movements that would otherwise cause images
to blur. The result is sharper pictures when shooting
in low light. VR also allows you to take advantage
of slower shutter speeds (similar to shooting
at shutter speeds two to three stops faster).
The Nikon P5100 provides full exposure flexibility
with Programmed Auto, Aperture-Priority, Shutter-Priority
and full Manual modes.
Nikon's innovative D-Lighting function compensates
for underexposed images or insufficient flash
by automatically adding light and detail to selected
shots where needed -- without affecting properly
exposed areas. Nikon's In-Camera Red-Eye Fix automatically
fixes most typical occurrences of red-eye. Face-Priority
AF automatically finds and focuses on peoples
faces to ensure clear, crisp focus on people's
faces.
Converter lens options include a Wide-angle optical
lens Converter that realizes a focal length of
24mm (35mm equivalent), and a Telephoto optical
lens Converter that extends the reach of the zoom
to 369mm (35mm equivalent). The built-in accessory
shoe supports the use of Nikons advanced
i-TTL flash control for external flashes, including
the Speedlight SB-400, SB-600 and SB-800.
The Nikon Coolpix P5100 should appeal
to serious amateur photographers who desire complete control
over the features of their digital cameras.
