Category: Beginner
to Serious Amateur
The Nikon Coolpix P3 has 8.1MP resolution,
a 3.5x optical Zoom-Nikkor lens and an extra large
2.5 in. LCD monitor. New is the addition of Vibration
Reduction (VR) capability, Nikon's version of
lens image stabilization used in its renowned
SLRs. VR compensates for camera shake during hand-held
shooting.
The Nikon P3 also comes with the freedom of
wireless, offering Wi-Fi support, allowing wireless
image transfer, wireless live transfer (moves
images to the computer as they are taken), and
wireless direct print to any PictBridge-compatible
USB either connected to the computer or direct
to the printer (no computer needed) through the
use of the optional Wireless Printer Adapter PD-10.
The Nikon P3 features a shutter speed range of
2-1/2,000 sec., and has a range of Advanced Scene
Modes (9 Advanced Scene Modes; 7 Scene Modes)
that gives photographers the ability to capture
a single scene in different moods through the
use of three effects that adjust brightness, colour
intensity, sharpness, noise reduction and more.
A 10-step Aperture Priority Mode offers greater
creative control, allowing you to select one of
10 depth-of-field settings (in 1/3 EV increments)
with Live Histogram. AF Area focus with corresponding
Spot AF area metering makes it easy to focus and
meter on off-center subjects.
Nikon's innovative D-Lighting function compensates
for exposure problems by adding light and detail
to dark areas of shots, while keeping brighter
areas just as they are. Nikon's In-Camera Red-Eye
Fix automatically does away with red eyes in-camera.
And Nikon exclusive BSS (Best Shot Selector) selects
and saves the best of a series of several shots.
The Nikon P3 incorporates the Nikon Face Priority
AF* function that uses advanced biometric facial
recognition technology to detect a person's face
at typical portrait taking distances, then automatically
focuses on the face area.
* Face recognition capability may be limited
depending on the shooting conditions.
Shoot movies at up to 30fps, with choice of three
sound modes. Additional time-lapse movie mode
lets you take pictures over a long period of time
and then create movies out of them by speeding
up the action.
The Nikon Coolpix P3 should appeal to
beginner and serious amateur photographers desiring
an easy-to-use wireless digital camera with image
stabilization and lots of other practical features.
The Nikon P4 is similar to the P3 minus
the Wi-Fi component.
