EXCUTIVE SUMMARY
This
Nikon Coolpix L2 Review is based on a production
model. All sample images are unretouched, except
where specified.
This
review has been submitted to DIWA
Awards [Total: 65%].

The Nikon Coolpix L2 is a simple-to-use
ultra-compact digital camera and is JeansPocket
Certified. It has 6.0MP resolution and a 3x
optical zoom.
Designed for straightforward point-and-shoot
photography, it has AUTO mode augmented with 15
easy-to-use Scene Modes.
A 2.0-in. LCD monitor has 86,000 pixels resolution,
kind of low by today's standards, but good enough
for outdoors use.
The Nikon L2 is not particularly fast, with a
noticeable shutter lag due to a slow autofocus.
However, if you prefocus, shutter lag becomes
negligible.
Image quality is good to very good. The L2 does
very well when the subject is well-lit (e.g. in
a "sunny outdoors" environment), and
images at low ISO (ISO is automatically selected
from 50 to 200) have very low noise. Metering
is precise. Chromatic Aberration is not a problem
in everyday shots.
Movies (with sound) are recorded 640x480 pixels
at 30fps until the memory card is full. Battery
life is excellent: approx 180 shots with alkaline,
600 shots with lithium, or 320 shots with NiMH
EN-MH1 (CIPA standard).
The Nikon Coolpix L2 is targeted to entry-level
photographers desiring automated operations in
an ultra-compact, simple-to-use and affordable
digital camera. Nikon's unique D-Lighting and
Best Shot Selector help the beginner get the shot
in less than ideal situations. Recommended for
sunny outdoors use.
