EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This
Nikon D200 Review is based on a production model.
All sample images are unretouched, except where
specified.
This
review has been submitted to DIWA
Awards [Total: 84%].

The Nikon D200 DSLR is a (relatively)
affordable professional-grade DSLR. Sized and
priced similar to the Nikon D100 that it replaces,
it is closer to the professional Nikon D2X in
features and image quality.
The Nikon D200 has more customizations than the
average photographer would ever need but if you
have specialized photographic needs, you will
want the extensive customization settings and
exposure flexibility available. In this case,
insead of buying a DSLR that might not fit your
needs, you might want to get the Nikon D200.
You get superb handling, exceptional performance,
a large, bright and clear optical viewfinder,
a body sealed against dust and mositure, and excellent
image quality with low noise and preserved detail
up to ISO 400. Noise is present at higher ISOs.
The Nikon D200 is very responsive and gives a
feeling of confidence that it can tackle any challenges
the photographer may face. It is probably not
really for the amateur photographer looking for
a first DLSR, but it will easily be a popular
backup camera for the professional photographer
who already owns a Nikon DSLR and lens system.
The advanced amateur photographer who is ready
to upgrade his or her DSLR but could not afford
(or justify) the high price of a professional-grade
digital camera can now do so with the Nikon D200.
