Canon
PowerShot SD10 Digital ELPH Review
Canon
has shrunk the Digital ELPH series into an ultra
thin, ultra compact design in the PowerShot
SD10 Digital ELPH, accomplishing this feat
partly by opting to use the smaller SecureDigital
(SD) storage media card instead of the larger
CompactFlash. The PowerShot SD10 makes a strong
fashion statement with its availability in 4 different
colours. But what is beneath this sleek body?
To find out more, read our Canon
PowerShot SD10 Digital ELPH Review.

Send
Us Your Questions
For the new year 2004, we are planning a new feature
-- a monthly newsletter. We receive lots of questions
and have tried to answer each and everyone personally.
The idea of the newsletter came about when we
realize the answer to a reader's question might
well benefit other readers, too. After all, we
were answering the same question over and over
again. So, we'll gather all the questions for
the month, group them according to topic, and
answer them in the newsletter. This way, every
subscriber to the newsletter will benefit from
one reader's question. We are also planning to
write special tutorials based on the questions
we receive. As always, we welcome any suggestions
you have to make the newsletter more useful to
you. So, send us your
questions, and subscribe now so you do not
miss a single issue!

Dressed
to Wow!
All
dressed up for that special occasion and wondering
whether to bring your digital camera or not? Let's
face it: there are not too many digital cameras
that are dressed as well as you are. They are
too big, do not fit into your coat pocket or fashion
purse, and they just look too, well, techie....
But wait! There are a couple of digital
cameras that may well be dressed better than you
are -- and are easy to use, too. more...

Using
The Histogram
We
all know and love the story of Goldilocks
and the Three Bears. But did you know
that Goldilocks, now all grown up and using a
digital camera, can still teach us a few things,
especially about how to use the Histogram,
now appearing in many consumer digital cameras?
Don't believe me? Check out this tutorial for
yourself -- and see if you will not forever remember
how to read and use a histogram for better pictures.

Farewell
Yashica! Welcome Kyocera!
If
you have never heard of Yashica, you'll
be left cold by this news. But for those who have
been around when Yashica cameras were something
to get excited about, you'll bemoan the news that
there will be no comeback for the once popular
Yashica brand. Instead, the Contax and
Kyocera brands will try to survive in the
digital world. Back in 1983, Yashica, manufacturer
of the Contax cameras, became part of the Kyocera
family:View the Contax
- Yashica - Kyocera time line.... Goodbye
Yashica, and welcome to Kyocera!
[P.S. Do a search on pbase.com and the Web for
some of the nice pictures taken through the years
by Yashica cameras.]
Ready
for the Canon TV?
On
another front, did any of you hear about the news
that Canon is entering the TV market? Canon
is teaming with Toshiba to design, build
and market large, thin plasma TVs. That's still
digital imaging, and part of Canon's core competencies,
so it seems to make sense.

Nikon
D70
There
was a lot of excitement a couple of months ago
when Nikon announced the D2H, a digital SLR targeted
to the specific needs of professionals who require
a fast camera for sports and action shots. Will
Nikon generate the same excitement once again
with the Nikon D70, a dSLR targeted to
the specific needs of amateur photographers? There
is no doubt that the battle of the amateur dSLRs
is about to start: similar to the Canon EOS Digital
Rebel, the Nikon D70 is priced sub US$1000, body
only. The D70 will employ the popular Nikon DX
format sensor and Nikon F lens mount, thus maintaining
seamless compatibility with all AF Nikkor lenses.
The D70, together with a brand new DX Zoom-Nikkor
lens, are slated for sales release Spring 2004.
In Canada, the Nikon D70 is already priced at
CAD$1,4000, body only. read
