Minolta
DiMAGE Xi
Minolta has scored quite a feat with the DiMAGE
Xi. This is a 3.2 megapixels digital camera with
a 3x optical zoom in a body only 0.8 in. (or 20mm)
thick (or, should we say, thin)! A clever arrangement
with the lens positioned vertically within the
camera means that the lens movement occurs inside
the camera, hence no protruding lens.

DiMAGE F100
There's quite a bit of innovation that has gone
into this compact, stylish (though a bit odd looking)
digital camera. Start with its Auto Focus: select
Subject Tracking AF, and leave it to the F100
to select and track your main subject through
a wide area automatically. Next, select Auto,
and the F100's Automatic Digital Subject Program
automatically determines the most appropriate
scene mode: Portrait, Sports Action, Landscape,
Sunset, or Night Portrait. Sounds impressive!

Cameras
Canon
is one of the most popular brand for beginners
all the way to professional photographers. From
humble beginnings to one of the most formidable

manufacturers' to bring superb cameras into the
hands of amateur photographers around the world.

The
Four Thirds System
What's
all the hullaballoo about the Four Thirds System
proposed by Olympus and Kodak? It's
quite an interesting development and we believe
it heralds a "coming of age" for the
digital SLR camera standard. Currently, only Olympus,
Kodak and Fuji have signed on --
so, that must mean that other major digital camera
manufacturers are probably already working on
their own versions. more...

DSC-F717
Cyber-shot
The F717 is a worthy successor to the F707. It
retains a 5 Megapixels resolution, a Carl Zeiss
lens with maximum aperture of F2.0, a 5x optical
zoom, macro at 0.8 in., and a whopping 30-1/1,000
sec. shutter speed. Plus, it has Nightshot technology
to enable infra-red photography and TTL (Through-the-lens)
pre-flash metering. The lens also rotates upward
and downward to permit more convenient shooting
angles.

If
you're planning to buy a professional SLR digital
camera, you'd better take a look at the new Canon
EOS-1 Ds first. It features a CMOS sensor
instead of a CCD sensor, and rates its resolution
at 11.1 megapixels! The CMOS sensor is full-frame,
i.e. it covers an imaging area of 24 x 36 mm,
allowing any Canon EF lens to be used! First look,
this camera provides every control imaginable,
and Canon engineers seem to have thought of everything,
even providing vertical grip controls, recessed
strap eyelets, and an eyepiece shutter lever.
Canon has definitively left everyone else at the
starting line with this new professional digital
camera.

Brief History of Cameras
When Oskar Barnack joined the Leitz Wetztlar Factory
in 1911, he had in mind to produce a portable camera.
In 1925, the first Leica (Leitz Camera)
camera was marketed. It became the pre-cursor of
all 35mm cameras. In this (very) brief timeline,
feast your eyes on Leica's most endearing legends.
