National Geographic 125th Anniversary Collector’s Edition October 2013: The Power of Photography

This video presents “National Geographic Celebrates the Power of Photography.”

  • National Geographic magazine marks its 125th anniversary with a special October 2013 issue devoted to celebrating the power of photography.

“Photographers use their cameras as tools of exploration, passports to inner sanctums, instruments for change. Their images are proof that photography matters—now more than ever. The issue looks at how photography has the power to impact our lives by bearing witness, helping to prove fact, giving us insight into each other, revealing unknown places, celebrating wonder and inspiring us to protect our natural world.”

The first issue of National Geographic magazine was published in October 1888. The journal featured articles such as “Geographic Methods in Geologic Investigation” and “The Classification of Geographic Forms by Genesis.”

Robert Draper discusses the essence of photography in terms of its power to transform the National Geographic over the past 125 years  from gray pages of its official journal to “photographic stories that can alter perceptions and, at their best, change lives” … as well as “transport us to unseen worlds.”
