Mount Everest in Gigapixel Glory

David Breashears has climbed Mount Everest five times already. Combining old and new pictures of the Khumbu glacier, he created this gigapixel image of the highest mountain in the world. The image is part of a project called GlacierWorks to document the current state of the glaciers, retracing the steps of pioneering mountain photographers in order to capture new images that precisely match the early photographic records.

This gigapixel image of the Khumbu glacier was captured by David Breashears during the spring of 2012, from the Pumori viewpoint near Mount Everest. The Khumbu Icefall is clearly visible here, and one can easily see the hustle and bustle of Everest Base Camp below.
