Minolta DiMAGE A1

Category: Prosumer

Minolta adds some excitement into the Prosumer digital camera market with the introduction of the DiMAGE A1. Taking the best of the DiMAGE 7 Series, Minolta has added professional features into the A1. Following in the footsteps of the 7Hi, the A1 also features a 5 megapixels resolution CCD image sensor (2/3 in.) and a 7x optical zoom lens (28-200mm, 35mm equivalent), retaining the 28mm wide-angle focal length.

With a top shutter speed of 1/16,000 sec., freezing action is never a problem; more importantly, the top shutter speed allows the entire aperture range to be used for depth-of-field control. Bulb exposures of 30 sec. are also possible.

An extensive system of optional accessories is available, ranging from external flashes, macro ring light, remote cord, external bettery pack.

Minolta touts its AF to be the fastest among current 5MP digital cameras, and claims its AF works even in low-light without the need for a low-light AF illuminator. It also has a unique anti-shake system where it is the image sensor that actually moves to compensate for camera shake.

Other professional features: real-time histogram; tiltable viewfinder eyepiece as well as LCD; an interval function for time-lapse movies; manual zoom ring.

The A1 will appeal to advanced amateur / prosumer photographers who desire a quality and professional SLR-type digital camera.
