The Leica V-Lux 1 is targeted
to serious amateur photographers with 10.1 megapixels
resolution and 12x optical zoom that is image
stabilized. Leica dubs it the "All-in-One"
: The compact digital camera with the power of
a single-lens reflex.
Marketed as "a real alternative
to digital SLR cameras," Leica stresses the
"Leica Vario lens, the optical image stabilizer,
the fast and accurate autofocus and the high-speed
image signal processing."
The Leica V-Lux 1 features a first-class
LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens that offers a slight
wide focal length range of 35420 mm. A 2.0
LCD monitor can be swivelled horizontally and
vertically through 180°, thus allowing flexibility
in shooting angles.
The V-LUX 1 offers fast, simple
and intuitive operation, and photographers will
enjoy the speed and accuracy of the manual focusing
and zoom rings on the lens. The manual focus ring
lets you manually adjust the focus from 30cm (0.98
feet) to infinity. To the advanced photographers,
it can save images in RAW file format, displays
a real-time histogram, and accepts an external
flash.
The V-Lux 1 is also equipped with a shutter
speed command dial (back of camera) and aperture
command dial (front of camera) for faster manual
operation.
It has full flexible exposure control, scene
modes, program shift, shutter speed range from
60 sec to 1/2,000 sec. (in Manual mode), and an
AF Assist Lamp to aid focusing in low-light situations.
Leica has developed its own profile for colour
matching, contrast and picture definition. This
is oriented to the picture characteristics that
are well known to Leica System Camera customers
from their use in combination with professional
film materials and specialist development laboratories.
The Leica V-Lux 1 will appeal
to the serious and advanced photographer desiring
an ultra-zoom digital camera with image stabilization
and full exposure flexibility.
