The Leica D-Lux 2 is a rebranding
of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 -- with different
software, a larger starting memory card and some
extra optional accessories. It has 8.4MP resolution
in a compact and elegantly designed silver body
-- minus the add-on clip that serves as a handgrip
on the Panasonic LX1. It features a 4x optical
zoom with a 28 to 112mm wide-angle capability
(35mm equivalent) that should allow capturing
more of a scene (or group shot) than standard
35mm lens is capable of.
The Leica D-Lux 2 has a 60-1/2,000
sec. shutter speed range (depending on exposure
modes), Scene Modes to automate exposure setting
in various situations, an extra large 2.5 in.
high resolution (207K pixels) LCD monitor (no
viewfinder, but an optional Digiscoping viewfinder
is available), and of course the image stabilized
Leica lens all the Panasonic digital cameras have
popularized. Macro focus is at 5 cm (2 in.).
The Leica D-Lux 2 has full exposure
flexibility with Program AE, Program Shift (P
mode), Aperture Priority AE, Shutter Priority
AE, and full Manual. A long shutter speed of 60
sec. is available in Manual mode for night photography.
It can save images in the RAW file format.
