Kodak Z740 Zoom Review

Review Date: April 26, 2005

Category: Beginner to Serious Amateur

Photoxels Editor's Choice 2005 Award

Executive Summary

This Kodak EasyShare Z740 Zoom Review is based on a production model. All sample images are unretouched, except where specified.

Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC)
317mm, Program, Pattern, 1/500 sec., F7.1 and ISO 80

Photographers can rarely resist the lure of a long zoom lens, and the Kodak EasyShare Z740 Zoom elegantly answers this need with a 10x optical zoom in a user-friendly digital camera. In fact, it is currently bundled with the Printer Dock Series 3 for One-Touch image transfer to your PC and One-Touch printing. It's a perfect combination for those looking for the famed Kodak "Press the button and the camera/printer will do the rest" ease of use promise.

The Kodak Z740 is medium compact and will not quite fit in your coat pocket, especially with the lens hood on. The best way to carry it is with the neck strap comfortably slung around your neck or shoulders. It has a good non-slip handgrip and one of the friendliest user-interface design we've ever used.

Even though the Kodak Z740 is targeted to beginner amateur photographers, it is equipped with full exposure flexibility and all the features important to serious amateur photograhers. Beginners will obtain great images in Auto mode, Program Auto mode, or the many Scene modes -- and progress to use the other exposure modes, including full Manual mode, when they are ready for more challenging and creative photography.

The Kodak Z740 is what we would term a true Point & Shoot digital camera, an easy-to-use family camera for capturing all those precious moments. Then print them out using the Printer Dock Series 3 at the touch of a button -- even without turning your computer on! If you do not want to post-process any images in an image editing software, the Kodak Z740's default settings produce images that are sharp and rich in colours straight out of the camera.
