The Kodak EasyShare Photo Printer 500
(PP500) works with Kodak EasyShare digital cameras
as well as virtually any brand PictBridge-enabled
digital camera, and can print pictures directly
from the camera without going through a computer.
It features 60 second print speed on waterproof,
stain-resistant paper; wireless capability; and,
it can print directly from digital media cards
and USB devices.
Dimensions are 13.4D × 18.8W × 8.3H
cm (5.28D × 7.40W × 3.27H in.) and
it weighs approx. 950 g (33.5 oz), and so can
be stored in a small area on your desk or easily
carried in a small bag. However, when printing,
the paper tray needs approx. 17.5 cm (7.42 in.)
in front of the printer and the paper needs approx.
12.7 cm (5 in.) travel clearance behind the printer,
so in all an area not less than 43.6D x 18.8W
cm (17.7D x 7.40W in.) should be reserved on your
desk for the printer.
Setup and software installation are easy and
straightforward. Power up takes about 30 sec.
Reading a SD card takes about 7 sec. Printing
takes approx 75 sec. for the first 4x6 in. print,
then 60 sec. each for any following prints. A
picture is printed in 4 passes: yellow, magenta,
cyan and a Kodak XtraLife coating that protects
and preserves the image.
Everything you need to start printing immediately
is included in the printer kit: the printer itself,
color cartridge that slides in without any mess,
10 sheets of glossy photo paper, paper tray, power
cord and USB cable.
The printer can read any of the card types: CompactFlash
(CF), Secure Digital (SD), Multi Media Card (MMC),
Memory Stick and xD-Picture Card. In addition,
it will also read USB flash drives. If your cellphone
is BLUETOOTH-enabled, the PP500 will read from
it as well as from wireless devices, such as a
Wi-Fi enabled laptop.
There is an extra large 3.5 in. color LCD monitor
that flips up and allows you to run a slide show,
rotate a picture, even crop it before printing.
As the specs say, computer is optional.
Some of the features:
- Print copies of the same picture : 2 (card
size), 4 (wallet size) or 9 (mini photo) images
on a 4x6 in. paper
- Print a contact sheet of 2, 4 or 9 different
images on a 4x6 in. paper
- Change color mode to Enhanced, Sepia or B&W
- Reduce red-eye in your images
Once you've selected the images you want to print,
then all you have to do is press the PRINT button.
It is that simple and it beats waiting for the
camera store to return your prints. It is also
compact enough to bring with you to a party, family
visit, or other social occasion. Purchase a kit
containing a color cartridge and 40 photo paper,
bring it all with you, and you can take pictures
and immediately print and leave a copy with family
and friends.
If you print 4x6 in. photos mostly, the PP500
gives good results. I printed a couple of ISO
400 images and could not see any noise.
Printing is really a one-touch affair with the
Kodak EasyShare Photo Printer 500. If you
think printing at home is messy and difficult,
then the combination of a Kodak digital camera
(or any PictBridge-enabled digital camera) and
the Photo Printer 500 will quickly convince you
of the contrary.
