The
Kodak Easyshare DX6490 is very attractive
in its two tone black and silver accent body.
It is a full featured digital camera targeted
to beginner and serious amateur photographers.
In Programmed Auto mode, I find the Kodak Easyshare
DX6490 gives excellent 4 megapixels images and,
faithful to the Kodak reputation, is extremely
easy to use.
My
review model comes with the Camera Dock 6000
which makes it effortless to recharge the battery
(without having to remove it from the camera)
and to transfer images from the camera to your
PC (without having to remove the memory card).
I also received the Kodak
Easyshare Printer Dock 6000 for
evaluation and it has all the features of the
Camera Dock 6000, plus it 's just a matter of
placing the camera on the printer dock and pressing
a button for great looking borderless 4x6 in.
prints in less than 2 mins (90 sec. if printed
from PC, just under 2 mins if printed direct from
camera)! In Canada and the U.S., the Camera Dock
6000 is standard.
The
Kodak DX6490 makes a perfect point-and-shoot ultra
zoom digital camera. And when you're ready for
more creative photography, it features all the
exposure flexibility you'd ever need: Shutter-Priority,
Aperture-Priority, full Manual and easy to use
Scene Modes. For sporting events, there is Burst
Mode that allows you to capture up to 6 pictures
in quick succession (at approx. 3 frames per sec.).
Light
metering is selectable via the Menu among Multi-Pattern,
Center-Weight, and Center-Spot.
The
DX6490 is extremely light and compact for an ultra
zoom. It has a bright Electronic Viewfinder (EVF)
which has diopter adjustment for those who wear
glasses. Differentiating itself from other ultrazoom
cameras, it also has the largest LCD display among
ultra zooms so far at 2.2 in. with 153,000 pixels
resolution.
Kodak
has carved out for itself a niche with easy to
use cameras and the Easyshare DX6490 follows in
that tradition by keeping the common operations
of the DX6490 point-and-shoot simple -- plus,
it adds all the features demanded by serious amateur
photographers for more creative digital photography.
