Our editors select their favourite digital cameras
from the 2004 models in each of the four categories:
Point-and-Shoot, Beginner, Serious,
and Advanced/Prosumer. We also include
a sub-category of UltraZoom.
Our selection methodology here is very simple:
We try to include models at different price points
as well as models that have practical features
that set them apart from their competitors. Once
we are past the Point-and-Shoot category, image
quality becomes the main criterion. Note that
we may not have necessarily reviewed all the digital
cameras presented here.
Any digital camera from this selection of the
best digital cameras will certainly make
a great holiday gift.
Editor's Choice Selection
Methodology
We
also present the Photoxels
Editor's Choice award to those digital cameras
we believe are deserving special mention.
This year, we have adopted a much more stringent
selection methodology:
- We focus on image quality, low noiseandfast shutter response as our
main selection criteria. A digital camera has
to do very well in all three criteria
to earn an Editor's Choice.
- Note that, of necessity, only the digital
cameras we have had the opportunity to review
during this year 2004 have been considered for
Editor's Choice. [It does not make sense to present
the award to a camera we did not personally review.]
We hope you enjoy this gift guide and will consider
giving the gift that lasts a lifetime in memories.
Here, then, is the Photoxels
Gift Guide 2004:
P&S
Beginner
Serious
Advanced
UltraZoom
This is by no means a complete list and we encourage
you to view our list of best
digital cameras worthy of your consideration.
Gift Guide 2005
Yes, we are already thinking of next year's gift
guide and are planning of introducing it differently!
Instead of waiting for the year end to come up
with our list, we intend to update it as the year
progresses. Editor's Choice will, however, still
be awarded at year end when we have had a chance
to review the cameras. While the gift guide will
feature digital cameras that we may not have reviewed,
Editor's Choice will be awarded only to those
we did review.
Note: Some of the newer digital cameras annouced
recently will not be available for review until
next year, so will be featured in the Gift Guide
2005.
