On Duty:
9mm, Programmed Auto, Pattern, 1/550 sec., F7.0
and ISO 200
The Fujifilm FinePix S7000 Zoom is intuitive
to use, and it is easy to obtain great images
in Programmed Auto mode.
With 6x optical zoom, 6.3MP resolution, full
exposure flexibility, and beautiful colour reproduction,
the S7000 provides an easy-to-use entry into the
prosumer category.
The all-black body looks very professional as
well as being unobstrusive. Construction is high-quality
and handling and feel is superb.
The
FinePix S7000 wins our OriGenial
Seal of Approval for the way it has implemented
its controls, EVF, Menu System, Manual Focus,
etc. into a package that is both intuitive and
enjoyable to use. Basically, the camera gets out
of the way and allows you to concentrate on the
picture. Very few digital cameras can make that
sort of claim.
Image quality is comparable with other 6 megapixels
resolution digital cameras but the use of a high
ISO 200 and interpolation of the 6MP to 12MP output
probably account for somewhat noisier images.
If you are moving up to a prosumer model, you
will want to take a look at the S7000; it offers
everything you need to learn photography, and
it's all implemented in a well-designed package.
If you are a pro and looking for a smaller digital
camera than your bulky dSLR, you will find the
S7000 an easy transition. We recommend you both
check out the image samples for yourselves to
see if the somewhat noisier images (when viewed
at original size) are an issue for you or not.
All in all, the Fujifilm FinePix S7000
is truly one of the most enjoyable prosumer digital
camera I've used. Some cameras just seem to be
like that and I find the S7000 to be especially
ergonomic, intuitive, and so simple to use --
almost point-and-shoot simple! And the manual
features are there, a simple button press away.
The EVF is one of the best (though Fujifilm needs
to add extreme low-light capability to it) and
the large viewfinder makes a huge difference in
how easy it is to compose and concentrate on the
images you want to take.
