If you've ever wished for a "photographer's
camera" with all the features you'll ever
need to learn and grow, including long zoom, wide-angle
coverage, full exposure flexibility, ... the Fujifilm
FinePix S6000fd Zoom is probably the best
there is currently. Sure, it is missing image
stabilization, but many pros go through life without
this feature, do not miss it, and manage to take
beautiful pictures without it.
With a wide-angle 10.7x optical zoom and 6.3MP
resolution, the Fujifilm S6000fd provides very
good to excellent image quality. Imagine the FinePix
F30 with a long zoom lens attached. Similar to
the Fujifilm F30, noise is low at ISO 100, 200
and 400. ISO 800 is very usable, and a high ISO
1600-3200 allows you to get the shot where otherwise
you may not be able to depending on the amount
of light present.
The Fujifilm S6000fd now comes with a manual
Zoom Ring and manual Focus Ring, two features
usually present only in advanced and more expensive
digital cameras. AF is fast and it has no practical
shutter lag.
Easily one of the best looking long zoom digital
camera around, the Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd
looks very professional in its mostly black body
with silver accents. It handles comfortably and,
though it is full-featured and provides complete
exposure flexibility, in use it is "so easy that
even mom can use it."
What I like about the Fujifilm S6000fd:
- Very good to excellent image quality.
- Superb low-light capability: Low noise from
ISO 100 to 400. ISO 800 is usable. ISO 1600-3200
is bonus.
- Wide-angle 10.7x optical zoom lens (28-300mm,
35mm equivalent) with very good manual Zoom
Ring.
- Manual Focus Ring with One-Touch AF makes
manual focusing a snap.
- High resolution 2.5-in. LCD gains up very
well in low-light.
- Programmed AE mode with Program Shift.
- Area AF with 49 positions for easy off-center
focus.
- Excellent handling and grip.
- Intuitive controls and menus.
- Full exposure flexibility makes this digital
camera perfect for soemone who wants to learn
and grow in digital photography.
- Availability of optional Wide Conversion Lens
WL-FXS6 (0.8x, 35mm equivalent 22mm). Lens is
threaded to accept filters.
- A photographer's digital camera, with all
the features you need to learn and grow.
Improvements wishlist:
- Image Stabilization.
- Avalability of ISO AUTO 400 in PASM modes
(like in the F30).
- Exposure that meters at selected AF point.
- A tilting LCD for close-to-the-ground shooting.
