The Fujifilm FinePix S200EXR is the "almost DSLR" Super Zoom and is easily the best bridge DSLR-like digital camera. As if to make the point clear, the S200EXR looks like a DSLR, has the dimension and weight of one, and handles like one with its deep grip, manual zoom ring and lots of dedicated control buttons.
In size and weight, the S200EXR bucks the trend toward more compact and lightweight digital SLR cameras. Those with large hands will feel comfortable with it at once. Construction and feel are very good.
The Fujifilm S200EXR replaces the FinePix S100FS, improving in one aspect but losing some features also. Of course, the improvement is the Super CCD EXR image sensor that, for all practical purposes, has pretty much eliminated blown highlights forever in pictures, though you'll have to settle for a 6M image. Features lost (or compromised) include the 2.5-in. tiltable LCD now replaced with a fixed 2.7-in. LCD (same 230K dots resolution), a wider 28mm replaced with a not-as-wide 30.5mm (on the other hand, tele is now a longer 436mm instead of 400mm, for same 14.3x optical zoom), and the loss of the Flash Synchronizing Terminal for TTL mode.
I've thoroughly enjoyed using the Fujifilm FinePix S200EXR. It comes the closest to handling and working like a DSLR without being one. It produces very good image quality at the low ISOs and its high ISO images are also really, really good. Also, did we mention, that you won't have blown highlights anymore? Even pointing at a scene with lots of bright sky? Though most of this good stuff will be at 6M resolution, the S200EXR also takes very good full 12M resolution images.
EXR AUTO shooting mode does a fantastic job of determining which mode to use and makes it point-and-shoot easy for beginners to obtain great shots. Full exposure flexibility and customized settings provide complete control (including what image resolution to use) for the advanced photographer.
