The Fujifilm FinePix S100FS is a brand new model billed as FUJIFILM’s most advanced DSLR-style camera to date. The "FS" suffix stands for "Film Simulation" and the S100FS also heralds the return of the larger 2/3-in. image sensor in a prosumer level digital camera. The image sensor is the eighth generation Super CCD HR with 11MP resolution allowing a High Sensitivity ISO 3200 at full resolution.
Dual Image Stabilization combines Optical Image Stabilization with Fujifilm's Picture Stabilization and should be useful to stabilize the 14.3x wide-angle optical zoom (28-400mm, 35mm equiv.).
Fujifilm claims a gain in Wide Dynamic Range of up to 400%. This technology was originally developed for Fujifilm's S5Pro DSLR and allows photographers to capture every nuance of highlight and shadow in high contrast scenes. Users may select from several settings that will capture detail and contrast.
Fujifilm also claims a newly developed electronic
viewfinder (EVF) with significantly improved response, color
development and color reproduction to give photographers an
experience similar to what they get with a SLR optical viewfinder.
Film Simulation (FS) Modes allow advanced photographers who like the Fujifilm 35mm professional films to select a film-like character for the scene with a choice of four modes: "Velvia", "Provia", "Soft", and "Portrait". Each mode offers a subtle but unique change in tone and color reproduction, emulating the original qualities of the highly regarded Fujifilm professional films.
The Fujifilm S100FS has a new convenient Multi Bracketing function: "Dynamic Range Bracketing", "Film Simulation Bracketing", and "Auto Exposure Bracketing" automatically varies the settings, and 3 frames are taken continuously with a single shutter release. Photographers can concentrate on getting the perfect shot, and decide later which image best captures the moment.

- Continuous Shooting at 7fps (max. 50 frames) at 3MP resolution
An interesting design feature is the lens hood which has a square window in the lower part to allow adjustments of lens filters such as polarizing filters,
without removing the hood.
The Fujifilm S100FS provides full photographic control with PASM functions. It accepts xD-Picture
Card as well as Secure Digital (SD/SDHC) memory cards.
The Fujifilm FinePix S100FS should
appeal to serious amateur photographers desiring an ultra zoom with image stabilization and DSLR-like functionalities.
TIPA Award: The Fujifilm S100fs landed a 2008 TIPA Award as "Best Superzoom Digital Camera."
