Welcome to the third (November 2002) issue of
Photoxels! I know, I know, we are still counting,
and I guess we will stop at some point in the
future. Observant readers will notice a few cosmetic
changes. Since we are a new zine, you can expect
this site design to be kind of fluid, but hopefully
each improvement goes to make this site more intuitive
to navigate, easier to read, and richer in content.
Navigation Path You
will notice a navigation path at the top of each
page. We believe this will help situate the page
and make for faster navigation up and down a section.
Of course, the tabs and left-side navigation (including
a new Site Map page)
are still here to help easily navigate between
different sections. Be tuned for more changes
in the future to make navigation even easier and
faster.
Cameras We
have also gone back through our Digital
Cameras section and rewritten some of the
copy. We have added a couple more printable 8.5x11
in. QuickFact
Sheet format for some of the newer cameras.
Since older cameras are soon going to be replaced,
we have not bothered with a printable 8.5x11 in.
QuickFact
Sheet for them. If you would like us to create
one, just give us a shout and we will gladly comply.
Gift E-mail The
holiday season is almost upon us and some of us
might be cringing inside as we remember the gifts
our loved ones so lovingly bestowed on us last
year -- gifts that still remain unused :o). If
only we could leave them a hint.... Eh, that gives
us a stupendous idea! Send them a QuickMail
or print out your favorite camera's 8.5x11 in.
QuickFact
Sheet and leave it somewhere conspicuous.
We pre-addressed the QuickMail
to "honey" but you can easily substitute
it for GrandPa, GrandMa, Dad, Mom, Uncle, Aunt,
etc. Be creative with the message, too!
Digital Camera Buyer's Guide
In this issue, we have added a section on how
to choose a digital camera after a reader asked
us for our recommendations of some basic digital
cameras. As you know, it is not our current policy
to recommend any specific camera, so we came up
with an innovative solution: in our newest section,
Digital Camera Buyer's
Guide, we introduce the QuickProfile
Sheet to help you figure out what you really
want a digital camera for and to help you narrow
down your choices. It is important that the digital
camera you eventually select is the one that is
right for you. Once you have made up your
mind, fire off that QuickMail.
Photographer's Helpers
Somewhere in early October, Palm introduced their
new Zire
handheld Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), with
a MSRP of $99. Street price will no doubt be lower
than this. We now hear that Dell is also planning
to introduce its handheld PDAs (also priced in
that low range) ready for the gift giving holidays
season. The PDA is, in our opinion, the perfect
photographer's helper to keep all the important
information we need at our fingertips. This makes
a good affordable gift, too.
Canon History
Canon is one of the most popular brand from beginner
to professional photographers. From humble beginnings
to one of the most formidable camera manufacturer,
read a Brief History
of Canon Cameras in this issue.
Links Updated
We have updated our Links
section with new links as well as removing dead
links. We have added a French section because
we reason that you ain't need to know the language
to like the pictures (plus the fact that we are
Canadians, eh?).

How You Can Help In
October, Photoxels.com got listed in MSN, AltaVista
and Yahoo! If you think this site has been worth
your while, then here's two ways you can help:
1) Tell a friend about us! Simply click on the
link below Today's date. 2) If you maintain a
site that is also in the category of cameras and/or
photography, share this site with your readers
by adding a text link in your site to our site
(we will also gladly return the favor). In addition,
feel free to use any of the Photoxels ads we created
on this site, or you may use this logo together
with the text link:
