Sony NEX-3N review @TechRadar

Thu May 2, 2013 | by techradar

Sony NEX 3N front-900-75

TechRadar has published its Sony NEX-3N review.

Sony was one of the first manufacturers to enter into the compact system camera (CSC) arena, and as such it has a reasonable heritage with its NEX series. Although it doesn’t quite have the lens range of its Micro Four Thirds competitors, it is still streets ahead of the competition from Nikon and Canon, with each of the cameras in its range now in its third or fourth generation.

The Sony NEX-3N is the company’s new introduction to its cheapest and most basic entry-level CSC range. It replaces the Sony NEX-F3 and has a redesigned chassis, which makes it the smallest and lightest CSC to feature an APS-C sized sensor.

Nikon 1 S1 Review @ TechRadar

Tue April 30, 2013 | by techradar

Nikon 1 S1 grey front-900-75

TechRadar has published its Nikon 1 S1 review.

At the start of this year, Nikon introduced a new line to the already existing 1 V and 1 J series in the shape of the Nikon 1 S1. This is Nikon’s simplest compact system camera to date, and is a no frills version of the Nikon 1 J3. That means it comes without the fuss of mode dials and lots of buttons, instead concentrating on enabling you to take pictures. It still has all the manual control and raw shooting capability that you would expect of a camera with interchangeable lenses, it’s just buried a little deeper – enabling you to explore those options if you want to, but also ignoring them if it’s not for you.

The Coolpix A is the latest Nikon digital camera. It packs a sensor the same size as DSLR cameras with a 1.5X crop-factor and matches it with a 18.5mm F/2.8 Nikkor lens which is equivalent to a 28mm wide-angle lens on a full-frame camera. This premium compact has full photographic controls, including dual control-dials and a focusing-ring.

Review of the Lytro @ DVICE

Mon April 8, 2013

Lytro Light Field

Alice Truong has written up a first person account of the Lytro Field camera at DVICE. It’s an interesting article and points out the difficulty of establishing a new category when the current one has not fully matured yet. Digital photography in its current incarnation has yet a little bit more ways to go before it reaches its full potential, presumably when compact mirrorless full-frame cameras become commonplace. The Lytro camera itself faces some technological challenges, not unlike what digital cameras had to go through, re: sensor size, LCD quality/size, etc.

Read the Lytro review @ DVICE.

Exclusive Olympus Stylus Tough TG-2 Review @ Neocamera

Wed March 27, 2013 | by Itai Danan

Olympus Stylus Tough TG-2 Review

Olympus Stylus Tough TG-2 Review

An exclusive review of the flagship rugged camera from Olympus, the Stylus Tough TG-2 was just published at Neocamera. This is the toughest model from Olympus and is ready to go anywhere with a completely waterproof body that can be taken underwater to 15m below the surface, in the cold to -10C, dropped from up to 2.1m and survive 100kg of pressure.

The TG-2 is optimized for low-light performance with a bright F/2 lens paired with a 12 megapixels high-speed CMOS sensor capable of ISO 100 to 6400 and shooting continuous at 5 FPS. Needless to say, it can also capture full 1080p HD video.

Read the review to see how the TG-2 performs and compares.
