The Sony NEX-7 Interchangeable Lens Camera (ILC, or compact mirrorless DSLR) is the almost perfect enthusiast camera in terms of handling, image quality and performance. It is recognized by most reviewers as one of the most — if not the most — exciting camera of 2011, and that’s including the traditional mirrored DSLRs in the mix.
The Sony NEX-7 features 24.3 MP resolution (on an Exmor™ APS HD CMOS sensor 23.5 X 15.6mm), 3.0-in. tiltabe LCD (921k-dot), built-in EVF (2,359k-dot), iAUTO, PASM, Scene Modes, Sweep Panorama, Anti Motion Blur, Manual Focus, Background Defocus, Picture Effect, Hand-held Twilight Mode, Peaking AF function, built-in flash, Continuous Shooting at up to 10fps, Auto HDR, Dynamic Range Optimizer, RAW, Anti-Dust Technology, and Full HD 1080p Movie 1920 x 1080/60p AVCHD with stereo sound.
The Sony NEX-7 seems to have taken the camera world by storm. The dust has yet to settle, but reviewers are already heaping upon it their highest awards. It’s not perfect by any means [be sure to read all the reviews in our list below] but when pro photographers start thinking seriously of swapping their traditional large and clunky mirrored DSLR and lenses for a smaller compact mirrorless DSLR, you know that there has been a definite paradigm shift. The compact mirrorless DSLR is now a force to reckon with and cameras like the NEX-7 shows us why. The Sony NEX-7 is an ideal compact serious enthusiast and advanced photographer camera with DSLR-level image quality, performance and low-light capability.
If you do not require a built-in high resolution electronic viewfinder and built-in flash, check out the cheaper but equally remarkable Sony NEX-5N.
