The
Canon S50 is the first all-black bodied consumer
digital camera from Canon. Many photographers
prefer this color since it gives a more professional
look, and the black color tends to also be less
intrusive than a bright light-reflecting silver.
It is strictly a matter of personal preferences,
of course, and has absolutely nothing to do with
the high quality of the images the S50 or its
two-toned silver-colored sibling, the S45, produces.
The
Canon PowerShot S50 features 5.0 megapixels resolution,
a F2.8 max. aperture, a 3x optical zoom and a
shutter speed range of 15-1/1,500 sec. Macro focus
is at 4 in. It has the full complement of exposure
control a serious amateur photographer demands:
Shutter-Priority, Aperture-Priority, Scene Modes
and full Manual mode. Photographers will appreciate
the 1.8 in. LCD, giving a slightly larger image
than the standard 1.5 in. The S50 also takes CompactFlash
Type II, the same storage media standard used
in most professional digital cameras.
The
Canon PowerShot S50 has a low-light focus-assist
illuminator to help obtain accurate focus in dim
situations. You can take continuous shots at about
2 frames per second, and shoot up to 3 minutes
of QuickTime AVI movie at 320x240 size. The S50
takes a Li-on battery and comes with a battery
charger.
The
Canon PowerShot S50 is targeted to serious amateur
photographers who demand a digital camera with
all the features they are used to having and who
refuse to compromise with quality images.
