The Canon PowerShot Pro1 is the flagship
model of the PowerShot series. It features 8 megapixels
resolution on a 2/3 in. image sensor. Its 7x optical
zoom (operated using a zoom ring) ranges from
a wide-angle 28mm (perfect for landscape and group
photos) to a medium telephoto of 200mm (perfect
for pleasant portrait shots). Macro is as close
as 3 cm.
The Canon Pro1 improves on the G5 in most areas,
except two: the maximum aperture is now F2.4,
still larger than the regular F2.8, but smaller
than the Canon G5's bright F2.0; and the low-light
AF assist illuminator is absent on the Canon Pro1.
Fortunately, Canon has equipped the Pro1 with
professional features:
- Shutter speed ranges from a long 15 sec. (for
night shots) to a fast 1/4,000 sec. (for action-freezing
shots).
- A 2 in. Vari-Angle LCD monitor swivels and
makes it easy to take pictures from otherwise
arkward angles.
- A LCD display on top of the camera conveniently
provides exposure information.
Like all new Canon digital cameras, the Pro1
is PictBridge-compatible.
Optional accessories include a tele converter
and external speedlites.
