With
a few strokes of a pencil, the Canon PowerShot
G3 designer has catapulted Canon back to the forefront
of good camera design. The Canon PowerShot G3
is a camera to get excited about. Though it is
basically the same size and shape as the G2, its
redesign makes it one of the few rare cameras
with personality that has a refreshing originality
all its own. Bravo, Canon, for daring to be bold!
The
Canon PowerShot G3 looks to become an all-time
favorite, just like the G2 was. It stills retains
a resolution of 4 megapixels, and the shutter
speed range is 15 - 1/2,000 sec. It's optical
zoom is now higher at 4x with a 35mm equivalent
of 35-140mm. The G3 can also be connected to a
PC and controlled by software (included) on the
PC.
With
this new design, Canon has ushered in a new era
of good design that other camera manufacturers
will be trying hard to emulate. This bodes well
for all of us tired of living with poor cookie-cutter
camera designs. We award the G3 our OriGenial
Seal of Approval for excellence in camera
design and richness of features.
The
Canon G3 is targeted to advanced amateur photographers
who desire total control over the features of
their cameras and know how to get the most them.
(What this means is that if you are basically
a point-and-shoot beginner, the G3 might require
you to fiddle with more settings than you would
want to.)
The
Canon PowerShot G5 updates the G3 with a 5MP image
sensor.
