The
Canon EOS Digital Rebel / 300D digital
SLR is the first digital Single Lens Reflex (dSLR)
targeted to serious amateur photographers. It
has the same ease of use the film Rebel line of
SLRs consumers have come to appreciate, and the
image quality heretofore available only in more
expensive pro level digital SLRs.
Housed under an attractive composite plastic and
magnesium alloy body, the Canon Digital Rebel
is quite light (560g), even with the addition
of the new Canon EF-S 18-55mm (35mm equivalent
of 28-90mm) lens (190g). Canon has taken the best
features of the hugely popular Canon 10D and packaged
them into point-and-shoot auto functions in the
Canon Digital Rebel. For those who desire more
control, the Canon Digital Rebel provides Program
AE (with shift), Shutter-Priority AE, Aperture-Priority
AE, and Manual mode. Scene modes (Programmed Image
Control modes) include Portait, Landscape, Sports,
Night Scene, and Close-Up. The viewfinder provides
diopter correction for those wearing glasses and
the 1.8 in. LCD has 118,000 pixels resolution.
What sets the Canon Digital Rebel a world apart
from other consumer (and even prosumer) digital
cameras is the large image sensor with 6.3 megapixels
resolution. The 22.7 x 15.1mm image sensor allows
noise-free pictures even at high ISOs, thus permitting
low-light indoors photography at comfortable shutter
speeds. With fast auto focus even in low-light,
little or no shutter lag, and noise-free images
at high ISOs, the Canon Digital Rebel shatters
through the three major problem areas most consumers
complain about today.
The
Canon EOS Digital Rebel digital SLR accepts more
than 50 Canon EF lenses, a new battery grip (with
2 Li-Ion batteries) that allows shooting up to
1,200 images before requiring battery change,
and the EX-series Speedlites.
