Canon EOS 20D digital SLR

Category: Advanced
Amateur - Prosumer
The Canon EOS 20D digital SLR is Canon's
latest prosumer digital Single Lens Reflex, replacing
the EOS 10D. Smaller and lighter than the 10D,
the EOS 20D is built in an all-black magnesium
alloy external body with a solid stainless steel
internal chassis. Positioned between the entry-level
EOS Digital Rebel and the professional EOS 1D
series dSLRs, the 20D occupies a coveted space
reserved for advanced amateur photographers desiring
pro level image quality and handling in a relatively
affordable package.
The EOS 20D has an APS-sized CMOS image sensor
with 8.2 megapixel resolution. It boasts ISO sensitivity
of 100 to 3200, with ISO 100 to 800 noise-free,
and ISO 1600 and 3200 having very acceptable noise
level.
With the ESO 20D, users can expect access to
a broad range of Canon's professional accessories
and lenses. They can take full advantage of Canons
lineup of EF and EF-S Series professional lenses,
add a battery grip (Battery Grip BG-E2) or powerful
external flash unit (Speedlite 580EX). The EOS
20D can also be purchased with a lens kit made
specially for the 20D: the Canon EF-S 17-85mm
f/4-5.6 IS USM lens. With a crop factor of 1.6x,
this gives a 35mm equivalent of 27.2-136mm, in
other words a wide-angle to medium telephoto 5x
optical zoom. The lens also has the added benefit
of having image stabilization built-in that minimizes
blur from unsteady handling and provides maximum
performance for wide-angle shooting.
The EOS 20D is fast: a 0.2 sec. startup, 65 milliseconds
shutter lag, high speed morror drive, shortened
viewfinder blackout time, 5fps consecutive shooting
speed during maximum bursts of 23 shots (6 shots
in RAW format), and fast data transfer using USB
2.0
Shutter speed ranges from a blazing 1/8000 sec.
to 30 sec. White Balance offers advanced compensation
and bracketing functions, and the new viewfinder
is bright, clear and especially easy to focus.
The EOS 20D also has a Monochrome mode with filter
and toning effects as well as adjustable contrast
and sharpness.
The Canon EOS 20D digital SLR will appeal
to advanced amateur photographers desiring speed
and performance combined with professional image
quality. It provides advanced amateur photographers
a relatively affordable entry into professional
/ commercial photography while professional photographers
will find the 20D a perfect backup digital camera.
