The Canon PowerShot SX1 IS features 10.0MP resolution, a 20x wide-angle optical ultra zoom lens (28–560 mm equiv.) with built-in optical image stabilization,
and a large 2.8-inch Vari-angle LCD (230K dots).
Face Detection finds and tracks the faces of moving subjects. Exposure, flash and white balance are also set appropriately so that faces exhibit natural skin tones and backgrounds are properly exposed. In addition, a Face Detection Self-timer automatically detects an increase in the number of faces so there's no need to rush in. Intelligent Contrast Correction brightens dark areas in pictures.
Besides full exposure flexibility with Auto, Program, Shutter-Priority, Aperture-Priority and Manual modes, the PowerShot SX1 IS also has 12 easy-to-use special Scene Modes that includes the popular Color Accent, where you choose to retain a single color in your image while other colors turn monochrome. The addition of RAW file format should please advanced photographers desiring full control over the image result.
Movie can be shot in full HD (1920 x 1080) @ 30fps for up to 4GB or 29 min. 59 sec. per clip. A Standard Definition (640 x 480) @ 30 fps clip can be up to 4GB or 60 min.
