The Canon PowerShot S5 IS succeeds the
S3 IS with 8.0MP resolution, the same high-powered
12x optical zoom lens with built-in optical image stabilization,
enhanced movie capabilities with Face Detection AF and AE, and a hot shoe for using external flash.
The optical image stabilizer provides up to approx. 3 stops of camera shake correction in shutter speed equivalent. In addition, Auto ISO Shift allows you to raise the ISO speed (up to ISO 1600) merely by pressing the Print/Share button to record at a shutter speed that avoids the effects of camera shake.
The PowerShot S5 IS can take VGA (640 x 480 pixels)
movies at 30 fps. The MovieSnap feature enables users to capture high-resolution 8MP still images at any point during the movie without having to switch mode.
The 2.5-in. Vari-angle LCD monitor has a wide viewing angle and can be moved right or left 180 degrees and tilted forward 180 degrees toward the lens or backward 90 degrees to shoot from any position. Night Display makes for easy viewing in low-light situations.
New is a hot shoe adapter which lets you quickly and easily add one of several high-quality Canon Speedlite EX Series external flashes, including 220EX, 430EX, 580EX and 580EX II.
Shoot movies at 640x480 30fps. USB 2.0 Hi-Speed lets you transfer images fast to a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed compatible computer.
The Canon S5 IS has full exposure flexibility and will appeal to beginner
and serious amateur photographers alike.
