Beginner

The
Canon PowerShot S2 IS replaces the popular
Canon S1 IS with higher resolution, a more powerful
12x optical zoom lens and enhanced movie capability.
Startup and response times have also been improved.
The
Canon S2 incorporates UD (Ultra Low Dispersion)
lens into the lens element to reduce the much
dreaded chromatic aberration (purple fringing).
As in the Canon S1 IS, the Canon S2 IS retains
the image stabilizer to reduce camera shake, and
the quiet, smooth and fast ultra-sonic motor (USM).
Improved
movie capabilities include VGA (640 x 480 pixels)
resolution at 30 fps, plus the ability to adjust
the zoom or exposure, or locking the AF or exposure
while shooting a movie. Movies up to 1GB capacity
can be taken. Also new is a stereo microphone
and a function to record stereophonic sound for
improved recording quality.
The Vari-Angle LCD is now 1.8 in., and the camera
has switched from using CompactFlash (CF) to SecureDigital
(SD) memory cards. A Super Macro mode allows you
to shoot as close as the front element of the
lens.
The Canon S2 IS is a very attractive package.
With full exposure flexibility, it is most suited
to beginner and serious amateur photographers
looking for an ultra zoom digital camera with
image stabilization.
