The Canon PowerShot G9 restores an important feature that many advanced photographers will welcome: the G9 regains the ability to save images in the RAW recording format.
The G9 features 12.1MP resolution, an ultra large 3.0-in. LCD screen and is also compatible with Canon's ST-E2 wireless flash transmitter. There is now a small depression at the back of the camera to act as a thumb rest and improve handling.
It retains most of the specifications on the G7: 6x optical zoom lens that retracts into the body
and has its own lens cover when closed; Image Stabilization technology that provides approx.
3 stops gain to reduce the effect of camera shake;
the rotary-type Control
Dial and an ISO Speed Dial for
more intuitive analog-type operations; Face Detection technology together with Face
Priority AE; AF Frame that is movable across the
screen to permit off-center focusing; a histogram
can be displayed in Playback; a flash
hot shoe; and compatibility with a wide range of accessories including EOS Speedlites, Canon supplementary lenses and a waterproof case.
Even though the Canon PowerShot G9 features
Scene Modes, it is strictly targeted to serious
amateur photographers who desire total control
over the features of their camera and know how
to make the most of the manual controls. If you
do not fancy a DSLR but prefer a more compact professional-grade digital camera, the G9 deserves
a close look.
