Canon EOS 40D Digital SLR

Canon EOS 40D Digital

Category: Advanced Amateur - Prosumer

The Canon EOS 40D addresses the needs of the advanced amateur photographer with a digital SLR that sets new standards in its category and is professional in many respects except the price.

Positioned just below the full-frame EOS 5D, the EOS 40D improves on the award-winning 30D with:

  • A fast 6.5fps continuous shooting capability (for bursts of up to 75 Large/Fine JPEGs or 17 RAW images).
  • A larger 3.0-inch, 230,000-pixel LCD monitor with larger fonts and menu organized in the same tabbed format as the EOS-1D Mark III Digital SLR.
  • Live View LCD.
  • Upgraded dust and weather resistant construction.
  • Integrated Cleaning System uses ultrasonic vibrations to shake dust particles off of the low-pass filter in front of the image sensor each time the camera is powered up or shut down.
  • Compact Flash door open warning without loss of images still writing to card.
  • New sRAW recording format that reduces the number of pixels to one-fourth that of a standard RAW image and cuts the file size in half, while retaining all of the flexibility and creative possibilities associated with full-size, conventional RAW images.
  • Improved and faster AF.
  • Two interchangeable focusing screens.

The Canon 40D has 10.1MP resolution, an ISO range from 100-1600 (plus high-speed ISO 3200), a shutter speed range of 30-1/8000 sec., and an extra large 3.0 in. LCD monitor with 230,000 pixels resolution and 140° wide viewing angle that is easy to read even in bright daylight.

Other improvements:

· ISO setting now visible both in viewfinder and top panel
· 3 Custom Settings
· Faster Autofocus using cross-type sensors
· 14 bit A/D converter for better colours and luminance values
· Silent Shooting Mode

The viewfinder is noticeably improved with a 0.95x magnification. The mirror mechanism is also faster and quieter.

The Canon EOS 40D digital SLR provides photo professionals with the advanced features, fast, responsive controls, and exceptional image quality they demand, in a compact, lightweight yet rugged body. It is perfect as an accessible primary pro SLR for demanding photo enthusiasts or the affordable second body in the camera bag.
