The Canon PowerShot A720 IS features 6x optical
zoom, which covers a 35mm film equivalent focal
length ranging from 35 mm (Wide Angle) to 210
mm (Telephoto). It is also one of the few digital
cameras that still provides a real-image optical
viewfinder that works with the 6x zoom.
The Image Stabilizer Technology is true image
stabilization based on lens shift and reduces
blurring caused by camera shake. Effect of camera
shake correction is approx. from 2 to 3 steps
in shutter speed equivalent.
In addition, a High ISO Auto mode will automatically
increase the sensitivity (up to ISO 1600) so the
camera can use a high enough shutter speed to
reduce blurring caused by subject movement.
Movies can be recorded at VGA 640 x 480 pixels
@ 30 fps and can be taken continuously until the
clip size reaches 4GB or the clip length reaches
1 hour. Macro mode allows you to shoot a subject
when the distance from the front of the lens to
the subject is 1 cm (0.39 in.).
FlexiZone allows you to move the AF frame manually
to the desired position. This is convenient for
focusing accurately on an off-center subject.
The Canon PowerShot A720 IS has full exposure
flexibility and is feature-packed, including true
image stabilization. Reasonably priced and recommended for the budget-conscious student photographer requiring full control of a digital camera.
For the student photographer who can afford about US $150 more, the Canon A650 IS has similar functionality, a larger image sensor and a very convenient swivel LCD screen.
